Maroje Mrduljaš

He graduated and earned his PhD from the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. He co-authored and edited a number of books, including Fiume Fantastika: Phenomena of the City (2022), Tadao Ando: Transcending Oppositions (2018), Modernism-in-BetweenMediatory Architectures of Socialist Yugoslavia (2012), Dizajn i nezavisna kultura (2010) and Suvremena hrvatska arhitektura: Testiranje stvarnosti (2007). His work has been published in leading international journals such as Comparative Southeast European Studies, Vesper, Archithese, A+U, Domus, Materia Arquitectura and others. He has lectured and appeared as a guest critic at various institutions, including ETH Zürich, AA London, RIBA London, KIT Karlsruhe, Politecnico di Milano, Arkitektskolen Aarhus, TU Graz, Az W Wien, COAC Barcelona, MARQ-UC Santiago de Chile, TU Wien, IUAV Venezia, ETSA Madrid, Berlage Institute Rotterdam and Iowa State University.  

He has served as a curator or member of the curatorial team of many notable exhibitions, such as Sunčana strana modernizma (Oris House of Architecture, 2020), Toward a Concrete Utopia (MoMA, NY, 2018), Lifting the Curtain (Venice Architecture Biennale 2014), Unfinished Modernisations (UGM, 2012), Balkanology (SAM, Basel, 2008), and others. He has co-authored several urban design studies and award-winning architecture projects, including the Croatian pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka with the architectural office Arhiv and Lana Grahek. He was one of the creators of three seasons of the documentary series Concrete Slumbers, which was broadcast on many international TV stations and presented at many film festivals.

He received the Grand Prix and 59th Zagreb Salon of Architecture and Urbanism Award, a special mention of Pierre Vago Journalism Award in 2020, four Neven Šegvić Awards of the Croatian Association of Architects, the City of Zagreb Award, the City of Zenica Award, Collegium Artisticum Award of the Architects’ Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, medals of the Croatian Chamber of Architects and the second prize at the 38th Zagreb Salon of Architecture and Urbanism.  He is an independent expert advisor of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award and the European Prize for Urban Public Space.

He currently serves as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Zagreb, and at the Urban Studies programme of the University of Rijeka.
