Emil Jurcan, Croatia
Emil Jurcan graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ljubljana in 2007. As an architect, he worked within the “Pula Group,” with which he represented Croatia at the Venice Biennale in 2012. He currently works as an independent architect between Pula, Rijeka, and Trieste, wwhere he has completed several projects focused on the restoration and conservation of cultural heritage. His award-winning completed works include the renovation of the Brčevac estate (2014–2016), the restoration of the Leonardelli Palace in Galižana (2015–2017), the reconstruction of the Roman Theater in Pula (2013–2022), the restoration of the square near the Loggia in Oprtalj (2017–2018), the restoration of the Šubićevac Memorial Park in Šibenik (2019–2022), the renovation of the olive mill in Vodnjan (2021–2022), and the restoration of the tomb of Vladimir Gortan in Beram (2021–2025). He deepened his expertise in the field of architectural reconstruction and conservation through research conducted for his doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, which he defended in 2015. He also develops his theoretical work as co-editor of the architectural theory series “Dobrolet,” and within the framework of the Urban Studies program at the University of Rijeka, where he teaches the course “Art and Society.” He has also distinguished himself through professional and social engagement as President of the Istrian Association of Architects (2015–2019) and President of the Croatian Architects’ Association (2017–2019).
