RCR Arquitectes: Students Sports and Activities Centre, China Medical University Campus, Taiwan

On the new campus of China Medical University, opposite the new Museum of Medicine designed by Frank Gehry, a building is dedicated to student health and well-being, featuring spaces for sports, dining, or simply gathering. Under a large roof that surrounds and protects it, the building is open around its entire perimeter, generating an interior that mimics the environmental quality of the outdoors. Designed across three levels, the middle level corresponds to the public area, a space with circulations around the perimeter to connect with the upper floor, where the food court is located, and the lower floor, which houses classrooms, sports courts, and tracks.
The open-plan car park, which resembles an exterior space, is situated beneath these three floors.
The building is topped by a roof deck featuring an aromatic garden, as well as an elongated, elevated volume that houses areas for yoga and physical education and a restaurant offering panoramic views. Location: Taichung, Taiwan Year: 2019—ongoing
